Duergar? I hardly knew-ergar!

After visiting Caer-Konig the party hears about a string of thefts that have hit the small town lately. Someone (or someones) is sneaking into town at night, stealing various things from the townsfolk, and leaving. Some swore they saw bootprints that looked dwarven in size, but the Battlehammer dwarves wouldn't be that desperate, would they?

Following some faint tracks the party heads in the direction of Kelvin's Cairn. They eventually come across a small stronghold set into the foothills. A small bunker stands in front of the main outpost, with a sloping hill leading up to both. After some discussion, Jamie and Peski sneak up to check out the bunker. They see no way in or out, but do see a dwarf-sized figure in there... a figure that sees Sircle walking up the main path. He pulls out a crossbow and starts to take shots at the cleric.

When his shots prove ineffective and he starts drawing attention through the arrow slits, he decides to back away from the window and those close to the bunker hear the sound of wood on stone as a door slams shut. Most of the party make their way up to the cliffside in an attempt to sneak up to the front of the outpost.

Sircle, however, continues to crawl through the snow.

As they make their way along the front edge of the outpost, they find a culvert which contains some frozen water and an opening big enough for all of them. After getting Sircle's attention, the party sneaks in to hear voices about 10 feet above them, speaking dwarvish. They also hear the sound of something else groaning.

Making their way up they find two duergar and an ogre zombie that are just as surprised to see the party. Peski becomes a pincushion, but in the end the party dispatches their foes. Making their way through the complex they take care of a few more duergar and a couple of weird fungus covered humans. In the complex they find not only the missing goods from town, but also a note on the "lead" duergar's desk:

Brother,

You will find me on the frozen ferry in Easthaven. From this new base, the search for chardalyn continues. Long may our father reign over this dark land!

Durth

Returning to Caer-Konig, the party returns the stolen goods they were able to recover and earns not only a free night at the inn, but a leather bag from one of the townsfolk.

See you all next time!
